Rosgen Class B2 Forest Reference Stream Monitoring Data

In his book Applied River Morphology, Dave Rosgen describes B2 Stream types as “moderately entrenched systems, with channel gradients of 2 to 4%.” He goes on to say that:

“B2 stream types are typically located in or on coarse alluvial fans, lag deposits from old landslide debris, rockfall and talus areas, coarse colluvial deposits, and structurally controlled drainage-ways.”

“The channel bed morphology is dominated by boulder materials, and characterized as a series of rapids with irregularly spaced scour pools.”

“The B2 stream type has a moderate width/depth ratio and a sinuosity greater than 1.2. Many B2 stream channels have developed in residual materials derived from resistant rock types or from alluvial and/or colluvial deposition.”

“The bed and bank materials of the B2 stream type are considered stable and contribute only small quantities of sediment during runoff events.”
