Seedling Height: 6 to 12 inches

Mature Size: 35 to 50 feet in height and 1 to 1½ feet in diameter

Type: Deciduous

Growth Rate: Fast

Form: Typically upright and conical with very narrow branch angles

Soil Type: Clay, loam, sand, well-drained, moist soil

Light: Partial shade, partial sun, full sun

Foliage: Alternate, simple, ovate with a finely serrated margin, 1 to 4 inches in length

Blooms: Early to mid spring

Flowers: Clusters of showy white flowers, 1/2 to 3/4 inch across, appearing before or with the leaves.

Fruit: A large edible pome, 3 to 4 inches, pear-shaped

Values and Uses: A great wildlife tree that produces abundant fruit for many species. Deer, bear and raccoons love the fruit. Fruit will ripen in early fall and drop when the temperature starts to get colder. Common Pear, also know as European Pear, are grown in orchards to produce large quantities of fruit for human consumption.

Did You Know? In fruit orchards the pears are picked before it ripens. The fruit will ripen when it get cooled in a cold storage.
