Fishing Guide l Holliday Lake State Park

The Virginia Department of Forestry is excited to offer Trout Fishing in Holliday Creek on the Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest. The Department of Forestry manages this land for multiple-use purposes including watershed protection, recreation, timber production, hunting, fishing and applied forest research. Along with these activities Holliday Creek is a pristine stream that will support a viable trout fishery.

Trout stocking began in 1999 on Holliday Creek between Route 640 and Holliday Lake. Access to this area is by a footpath that follows the portion of the creek designated as the Trout Fishing Area. Parking is available on Route 640 at the Woolridge Wayside and on Route 614 at the water monitoring station. There is some room for parking on the roadside near bridges but be sure your vehicle is completely off the road. A valid Virginia Fishing License and Trout Stamp are required to fish this area.

Holliday Creek, the portion from the Route 640 crossing to a sign on a cable at the headwaters of Holliday Lake, is designated as a special regulation area. Only artificial lures with single hook may be used in these waters between October 1st and May 31st. During this time all trout must be immediately released unharmed. General statewide fishing regulations apply between June 1st and September 30th.

The Trail along the portion of Holliday Creek designated as Trout Fishing Area is open to foot traffic only. No motorized vehicles, bicycles or horses allowed. The remainder of Holliday Creek may be fished but is not currently stocked for trout.
