Pamunkey Ridge Girl Scout Camp
On August 12, 2008 local Virginia Department of Forestry personnel Kathleen Ogilvy and Dave Terwilliger had the pleasure of sharing their outdoor world with over 150 Brownies and Cadet Girl Scouts.
At the beautiful Pamunkey Ridge Girl Scout Camp we each became "functioning" parts of a tree by using humorous sounds and motions to depict our role in a tree's life. Hiking through the forest was the perfect time to discuss: "what animals live out here? , how did this forest start?, what products come from that tree?" Soon we were on the steep bluffs above the Pamunkey River with a spectacular view of a very green Hanover County. From that perspective it was easy to see just how important healthy forests are. The rewarding event concluded around the campfire ring with the older Cadets asking Kathleen what type of educational requirements and experience it took her to get such a "cool" job.
