Make Room For Trees

Many times we’re asked to “do more with less.” However, when it comes to urban forests, there is often “less” to start with. Land-use density can reduce the urban forest canopy. But if you are interested in learning more about the challenges of maintaining and expanding this canopy, you’ll want to “squeeze” this workshop into your schedule.

The Northern Virginia Urban Forestry Conference will take place Friday, November 18th, at the Algonkian Regional Park Conference Center in Sterling. The theme of this year’s event is, “Make Room For Trees: The Urban Forest Continuum.”

Early registration, which ends November 4th, is $75 per person. Any registration received after November 4th costs $100. The fee covers all sessions, which run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and a catered lunch.

Speakers include: Jan Davis, U.S. Forest Service; William Elmendorf, Ph.D., Penn. State; Susan Stein, U.S. Forest Service; Lucia Hall, Fairfax County, and Monica Lear, DDOT, Washington DC.

Registration forms are available at www.treesvirginia.org. Questions may be directed to Becky Woodson (434.220.9024).
