Urban Trees Take Center Stage at Waynesboro Workshop

Keeping trees healthy in cities and towns across Virginia is the focus of a day-long workshop for citizens, government officials and arborists that will be held Friday, Sept. 12th in Waynesboro, Va.

“Going for the Green” is the theme of the 13th annual Waynesboro Plant Health Care for Urban Trees workshop.  The event offers two tracks: a program designed for those interested in ensuring the vitality of the trees in their communities, and a program for people (arborists) who climb and cut trees in cities and towns.  Lunch is included with the registration fee.

“The Waynesboro workshop is one of the most successful programs of its kind in the nation,” said Paul Revell, urban and community forestry manager with the Virginia Department of Forestry.  “People come from every corner of the Commonwealth to learn the latest techniques in caring for the trees that provide so many benefits to them and to the environment.”

The program for arborists begins at 7:45 a.m. with registration and runs until 3:30 p.m.  It will be held at Ridgeview Park in Waynesboro and will be led by Rip Tompkins, safety trainer with ArborMaster Training Inc. The session will cover the latest innovative techniques in tree climbing and cutting.

The other program also begins at 7:45 a.m. but will begin at the Best Western Conference Center (109 Apple Tree Lane, Waynesboro).  At noon, the program will move to Ridgeview Park for lunch and afternoon sessions.
