Vaughan-Bassett Donates 150,000 Trees to Virginia Landowners;
Partners with VDOF to Establish 1-4-1 Reforestation Program
Vaughan-Bassett Furniture Co. will announce a new program that will put it at the head of the line for “green initiatives” in the furniture industry.
The company, which is the nation’s largest manufacturer of adult bedroom furniture, will unveil its “1-4-1 Program” at a news conference Dec. 18, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at its factory in Galax, Va. Vaughan-Bassett, with more than 1,000 employees, is one of the largest employers in the region.
The “1-4-1 Program” is a partnership with the Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF). Vaughan-Bassett has purchased 150,000 tree seedlings from the VDOF to replace every tree harvested for use in the Vaughan-Bassett manufacturing process. The VDOF will distribute the seven species of seedlings free of charge to Virginia landowners, schools, municipalities, etc. Recipients will plant the tree seedlings on their property.
“In the furniture industry, this is the first program of its kind,” said Carl E. Garrison III, state forester of Virginia. “Vaughan-Bassett has developed this unique green initiative, and it truly is natural resource sustainability at its best.”
The “1-4-1 Program” is the brainchild of Vaughan-Bassett Chairman and CEO John Bassett.
Bassett said, “I want everyone in the furniture industry to be good stewards of our natural resources. The ‘1-4-1 Program’ is the first step in that direction, and we’re proud to partner with the Virginia Department of Forestry in this regard.”
Note to Editors and Reporters: Bassett and Garrison will be joined by dignitaries from across Southwest Virginia at the news conference to unveil this important reforestation program Dec. 18 at 10:30 a.m. at the Vaughan-Bassett Furniture Company plant located at 300 Grayson Street in Galax.
