Don't Let Isabel's Bruises Turn Into Virginia's Fire Scars

damage ripe for a disastrous wildfire. We need your help in preventing any
unwanted fires in these areas.
The Virginia Department of Forestry received a grant to develop and implement a public awareness& wildfire prevention campaign.

Hurricane Isabel had a tremendous impact on Virginia. Significant damage, long-term power outages and more. This impact may create future problems for Virginians. The dead and downed timber that has dried out can produce wildfires, fires that could become large and difficult and dangerous to suppress. Large wildfires increase the risk that homes and other buildings could be consumed.

of the National Wildfire Prevention and Education Team working out of Charlottesville
Virginia were tasked to develop and implement a Public Awareness & Wildfire
Prevention Campaign. The campaign was to focus on the areas most impacted by
Hurricane Isabel but also be beneficial to the entire Commonwealth. The "Team" was
also directed to produce messages and products that might be useful in other
areas of the South which was so severely impacted by hurricanes this summer.

Some of the $176 million dollars in timber damage, NOT including damage estimates to trees in urban areas. This damage is estimated to have been valued at over $730 million if the timber had grown to maturity. Note the homes in the background - they are living on the edge of a very dangerous situation.
